img_5415First name: Kim
Age: 41
Children: Kaitlynne (12) Ali (9)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I can’t choose! I love to run. It’s my passion. But I also love cycling, Bootcamp, and indoor cycle.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I ran my first marathon at 31 and discovered a secret inner-athlete. 2013 was a banner year. I was at the 2013 Boston Marathon, and after the trauma of that experience, I was more determined than ever to live my life to its fullest. That year I placed overall in all the next 7 marathons I ran. I ran a PR at St. George running 2:51. Two weeks later I ran the SoJo Marathon in 2:56, setting the course PR for the female division that stands to this day. I’m also proud of being published in Runner’s World magazine twice.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Make exercise about you and how you feel. It’s so hard to stop the comparison game, but once you do, there’s so much freedom and growth. Your best self will emerge when you take care of yourself first. Exercise is not a punishment, it’s a privilege. How blessed are we to have bodies that are strong enough to do what we do! I truly believe when we feel good, we look good, not the other way around. Find joy in the work and the work becomes a joy.

Name: Hannah
Age: 22
Children: RJ 15 months
Preferred form of exercise: Weight lifting
Health and fitness accomplishment: When I was pregnant with my son, I became lazy and ate everything in sight. I gained close to 90 pounds while pregnant, 15 months later and I’ve lost all of that and gained muscle! It was hard but so worth it!
Advice for moms or moms to be: Workout however YOU can. Eat right and do some sort of exercise. Even if that is just walking on a treadmill! Also, don’t judge yourself based on other people at the gym. Don’t get intimidated. Everyone has their own journey and everyone is in a different point in their journey. Take it one step at a time and you’ll get there!

First Name: Lindsay
Age: 32
Children: Brayden-4, Daisy-3, Faelyn 4months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: HIIT, Lifting, Water Aerobics
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: With all of my pregnancies I remained active. I have been a Water Aerobics instructor and taught during all my pregnancies!! However as my love for lifting and increased I decided to become a Personal Trainer. So after baby number 2 I did it! I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, which helped me get back into shape. My most recent would be the fact that I worked out and taught my Water Aerobics class, up until the day I delivered baby number 3! Now during my postpartum journey I actually feel stronger than I did before getting pregnant!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Don’t compare yourself to anyone else! It’s so hard to get caught up in the idea that there is a certain way you should look, act, feel before or after having a baby. Enjoy every minute of every phase, because that’s all it is, a phase. Don’t be scared to ask for help. And always trust your mommy intuition!!!

First Name: Leah
Age: 34
Children: Currently pregnant with twins (first pregnancy)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: At home exercises
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Currently just still being able to keep up with my fitness routine and teaching my group fitness classes as I progress through this pregnancy.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: So far I am still in the learning stage myself, but one thing I am learning and feel I should share is embrace the journey. Do NOT compare your pregnancy with any other pregnancy or pregnant person, we are growing human life in us and some days will be tough and others will be a little easier. As long as we mamas know we are doing this for US and knowing that being healthy inside and out is going to be the key to our success in everything we want to accomplish.

First Name: Courtney
Age: 26
Children: Madison, 6 months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: running, walking and Fit4Mom classes
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I ran my first long race a couple of months after giving birth and was able to lose all 55 pounds of baby weight I gained during my pregnancy within six months even after giving birth.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice for new moms would be to find an activity you love and you can do with your children and know that you are going to have to make adjustments to meet your little one’s schedules, especially when you have a new baby. For me my favorite exercise is running and walking with my baby girl and it helps that she has learned to love riding in her stroller. Every day is a little different and we just play it by ear, some days we are able to get up and out the door and get our workout in early and some days we don’t get out of the house until much later in the afternoon.

Age: 29
Children: Isabella, 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: dancing
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: The day I went under 200 lbs, being able to fit down a slide with my daughter. having energy to play with my daughter.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Find an exercise that you love so it doesn’t feel like work. It’s slow and hard but it’s worth it. I suffer from anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, bad back bad knees but I keep pushing myself. All of them have gotten better with me watching what I eat and working out. As a mother you need to take time for yourself and distress it’s very important. Cortisol hormones(stress) can help make it harder to lose weight.

First Name: Lindsey
Age: 30
Children: Oakley – 2.5
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Since becoming a mom, I have had a roller coaster of health/fitness levels. My biggest accomplishment, health wise, was losing over 100lbs (from my heaviest) and maintaining the weight loss for the past year. I wasn’t actively trying to lose weight while I was breastfeeding the first year, but once that was done, it took me 6-8 months to focus on my nutrition, train for my first half marathon, and lose the remaining 40 pounds. My biggest accomplishment, fitness wise, was training for and running my first full marathon! It was not easy and it took a lot of mental (and physical) strength to get through those hard workouts and the race itself!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: 1. Take time for yourself and just breathe. A little time alone can help you gain a little better perspective in all situations. 2. Don’t be too hard on yourself or your body! You made (or will make) a little miracle and it will take a little time and energy to get anywhere close to where you were in the “before” times. Enjoy your days and your growing family!

Name: Bri
Age: 21
Children: Zoey, 20 months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Gym and Home workout.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I am a mother to a beautiful little girl. Through my journey I have truly made some crazy changes. When I was pregnant I was Diagnosed with Cholestasis and a severe heart condition. Already feeling nervous all the time I ate and ate. I was 150 lbs when I found out I was pregnant. The day I delivered I was 235. I tried every “fad” diet, wraps, supplements, shakes and couldn’t find a happy medium. One day I was looking through pictures and stood up and decided I was the roadblock. I was the reason I didn’t lose weight. And when my daughter was 18 months I made the change to a healthier lifestyle. I eat clean, I workout, and I enjoy life. Food addiction is real, and I conquered it! I have lost over 40 pounds without some crazy diet fad and continue to go down everyday after gaining 60+ with my pregnancy.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Being a mom is a demanding job. By eating right and taking care of your body you have the energy to chase and keep up with your little ones. It’s amazing truly. I always thought well I have this baby weight, this is gonna be me forever. NOT TRUE! Whatever change you want to see, YOU CAN DO IT!

First Name: Erin
Age: 30-something
Children: Two under two! Proud mama of a toddler boy and an infant girl.
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I am a certified yoga teacher and currently teach prenatal, Baby & Me, and Toddler & Me yoga classes several times a week. I am also a certified Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre instructor for Fit4Mom. I also have a dance and cheerleading background and I ran track & field for ten years.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom: I became a certified yoga instructor while pregnant with my second child and while busy caring for my toddler. I taught yoga and Fit4Mom classes up until my due date with my daughter and got right back to it only five weeks after giving birth. Now, only three months postpartum, I workout every day and I’m stronger than ever!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Be good to yourselves. As a woman, a mom, we tend to be very hard on ourselves, so we need to sometimes shut out the outside voices and listen to what’s within. We know what’s best for ourselves and our kids, so while others may be well-meaning with their advice, you intuitively know what’s best for you, your kids and your family. Know that our kids learn from watching us and if we are happy and healthy, they will be too!

First Name: Allison
Age: 40
Children: Will 16, Blake 13, Maximus 6
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: running, running with my BRF( best running friends) and strength training.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Until about 3 years ago, I never considered myself a runner. Never thought in a million years I could do that. So for me it is Running a half marathon. Have 9 so far will have my 10th one in December. Plus, I love inspiring my kids… My middle son loves cross country, and my youngest son joined me almost everyday when I was involved in a running streak for the month of June. (One mile a day)
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Take time out for yourself. It is ok to ask for help. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed trying to do it ALL. Mom of three here so I can relate.

First Name: Jennifer
Age: 32 (I’ll be 33 in September)
Children: My son is Kai and he just turned 2 in July.
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: running and weight training
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I’ve always thought of myself as a fairly active person. Before I became a mom I enjoyed my gym time, hikes, those types of things. It was becoming a mom that really drove me to focus on myself and my wellness. I’m most proud of completing my first half marathon when my son was 20 months. I realized I was stronger than I ever thought and that is something I want to teach my son – set goals, set them high, and know that you’ll reach them at your own pace.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Always take time for yourself! You are worth every minute you pour into yourself – it can be gym time, time on the trails, or even just dancing around your kitchen as you cook. No matter what it is – enjoy it!! You can’t give from an empty cup, so always make the time to fill yours.

First Name: Carly
Age: 29
Children: Madison, age 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Pilates, yoga, dance cardio
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Speed walking a 5k while baby carrying when Madison was a few months old.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: It took your body 9 months to transform and grow that precious baby, it needs AT LEAST that much time to get back to where it was before you were pregnant. Give your body time, pair good nutrition with fitness, and you’ll see results. You might need to try workouts you’ve never done before while your body is recovering, but don’t let that scare you away. If you’re a weights girl, try Pilates! If you’re a cardio fanatic, try dance cardio. Trade out your higher intensity workouts for a while and let your body recover in time with something that won’t throw you into shock and possibly cause an injury. You got this!

First Name: Walker
Age: 35
Children: F:6, G:3, T:3mo
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My proudest fitness accomplishment since becoming a mom is simply getting fit! I had a tendency to always look sporty, but never be sporty. Between figuring out how to be a new mom and keep working full time, I rarely fit in a workout. When my oldest daughter was 18 months old, I signed up for my first couch-to-5k program through my local running store. Since then, I have run numerous 5ks, trained for 10ks and a half-marathon with the store’s group, and continue to be an active participant in their training programs by being a mentor for others who are beginning/restarting their fitness journeys. A second accomplishment I’m very proud of was just this spring when I was 34-weeks pregnant with my third child – I ran a 5k while pushing my two big kids! I didn’t even think about my time because I was so proud that I crossed the finish line!!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Find a group of workout buddies who will keep you accountable – ask a neighbor to walk with you once a week, call your local running store to see if it offers training programs, or grab your dog’s leash!

Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Please make time for yourself, including your health and fitness goals. Also, we as mom’s often carry so much guilt and there is a lot of mom shaming on social media, so uplift and encourage those mom’s around you!

First Name: Erika
Age: 24
Children: 3 months, Lincoln
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I am up to 6 miles now at 3 months postpartum! I am training for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in february. My son and I run 6 days a week at the park, it has become a great bonding experience and an excuse to get outside, get some fresh air, and tighten up since having him!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Let your children be your reason, not your excuse🙂

First Name: Anita
Age: 38 years young
Children: My son is 2, his name is Christian.
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running, Crossfit, Weight training
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My proudest health and fitness accomplish since becoming a mom-to-be is a tough one. Nevermind anything about my physical accomplishments……what I am MOST proud of is revisiting something I LOVE to do, and making it all work at home by reigniting my 20-year passion for helping OTHER people meet THEIR health and fitness goals. Since having Christian I’ve renewed and expanded upon my ACE certification to personal train new moms, instruct Stroller Fitness classes for Wheee Get Fit & Play LLC, substitute group fitness classes at gyms locally, as well as coach with Beachbody. Not only do I get to inspire, motivate and coach people to be the best version of themselves, including moms like myself, I get to do it all flexibly with my son.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice for other new moms…when my son Christian unexpected came 10 weeks early, all of my focus of course went immediately to him. But the doctors told me just what I needed to hear to get through his 6 week hospital stay: “Strong, healthy, happy mamas make strong healthy, happy babies.” So don’t forget what truly makes you happy! Make sure you put it on the top of your to-do list every day, despite all the craziness of being a new mom, and the rest (including all of the love and care for your family) will follow.

First Name: Tami
Age: 43
Children: Alex & Mytch (22), Monte (17) and one furry child, Butters the schnoodle (7)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running mixed with anything new. My kids think it’s a 16-yr long mid-life crisis, but I crave the novelty & challenge – I’ve done CrossFit, surf lessons, SUP, kickboxing, played & reffed roller derby & more. I’m currently signed up for belly & tap dance this fall! So excited!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I’ve worked hard to show my children first hand that you can redefine who you are throughout your lifetime- you can change your thinking, change those labels and change your life! I wasn’t an “athlete” in high school or college. I was generally uncoordinated and late to the scene, only picking up running & an interest in fitness after the birth of my second son. Even then, I didn’t consider myself worthy of the label “athlete”. I’ve grown into it with time, most importantly in my own thinking. Changing how you view or label yourself is a game changer, it can be the mental shift that takes you to the next level and not just in fitness, but in all facets of life.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: MOM GUILT. Can we just say we’ve had enough! There are emotions that are productive – this isn’t one of them. Whether we’re heaping it onto ourselves or onto others, it’s not lifting anyone up. Lend a hand instead of judgement. Lend an ear instead of advice. Compare less, stress less and cut yourself some slack. Motherhood can be a tough job with an ever changing job description, and there isn’t any one right way to do it.

First Name: Liz
Age: 30
Children: Giavana; 6 weeks old
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Strongman and Crossfit
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I’ve always dabbled in sports since high school. I did track and field (weightlifting/ shot put/ discus) as well as cheerleading then. In college I took on rugby and continued cheerleading. Post college I struggled to maintain a fitness regimen and ultimately gained weight. In 2013, I stumbled upon crossfit and fell in love. Since then I had lost over 30 lbs. During my pregnancy, while still being deemed overweight by my OB, I wanted to stay active and not gain any substantial amount of weight. My family and friends shared stories of the 60lb weight gain during their pregnancies and the thought of having the lose all of that postpartum seemed daunting. So I continued crossfit, strongman (first two trimesters only) and jogging up until 36 weeks. I was able to eat clean (for the most part…those cravings yikes) and only gained 16 lbs my whole pregnancy. It allowed me to bounce back quickly and to date I’ve lost the 16lbs and 8 more to boot!!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice is simple since I’m a first time new mom. Take time out for yourself once every day. Don’t let society, family, friends or even your spouse make you feel guilty about this. I’m lucky in that my husband has been supportive 100% in helping me carve out time for myself. But I know this isn’t the case for everyone. As women, we tend to forget ourselves. Society teaches us that we must cook, clean, care for our child and now in this day and age we must return to work…all while being happy about being a mother. It’s OK not to be happy ALL the time (::gasp::) and it’s OK to ask for help. No one is perfect. Don’t forget about you and your needs. Whether it’s stealing five minutes to make a cup of coffee/tea, watching an episode of your favorite terrible reality show or working out postpartum. Don’t let society, your OB (within reason) or those around you dictate your happiness. Being a mom (esp a new first time mom) is HARD!! Everyone says it’s a beautiful experience and yes it is; but there are times that will test you. If you don’t take time out, you can lose your sense of self. Take time for YOU and those moments at 3am when you feel alone and tired won’t seem as daunting. Promise!

Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I became a runner 6 years ago, my kids have watched me go from a “couch potato” to a marathon runner. They watched me struggle through my first race to a PR. Determination and hard work is what I hope they see.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: There are no limits, you just need to train your mind to believe you are capable of doing anything! Find the strength and power inside yourself, because it’s there waiting to be found.

First Name: Tanya
Age: 29
Children: Clayton, new born
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running & yoga are my forte, but I’ve been dipping my toes into cycling.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I’ve just been cleared to get back into exercising, but my most proud accomplishments as a “mommy” happened during my pregnancy. I ran my first marathon at eight weeks pregnant ((Without knowing)), and a half marathon at 18 weeks pregnant. I was determined to run through my pregnancy. I thought it would be easy, since I was a strong runner before getting pregnant. But let me tell you, running through pregnancy was harder than giving actual birth. The pain//uncomfortable feelings that occurred with even a single step was something I never expected. I developed sciatica and tailbone pain. I would have pressure on my bladder that felt like I was running with a side stitch in my uterus. I couldn’t go more than half a mile from any bathroom from urges to pee. By 30 weeks, I walked more than I ran, but I got myself out there EVERYDAY! I can’t wait to share these stories with Clayton when he is older.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Trust your instincts. Take it day by day. Enjoy the hard times, because sooner than you think, they won’t need you for those late night cries/feedings/cuddles.

First Name: Christina
Age: 34
Children: Nolan 4, Lincoln 3
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running, Weight Lifting, Swimming, Biking and Yoga
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I was able to stay active and fit through back to back pregnancies (my sons are 14 months apart), with running, weight lifting and teaching group fitness. Shortly after the birth of my sons, I was back to distance running and am now even faster than I was pre-babies! Another huge accomplishment during and shortly after pregnancies was my husband and I fulfilled a dream since college and opened our own performance training gym!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Be sure to listen to and honor your body, but you can certainly continue to be active and fit throughout your pregnancy. Also, never let go of your dreams. Whether it’s running a marathon or running a business, or both, having children is not a hindrance, rather an excellent motivator to do great things. Make yourself and your babies proud!

First Name: Jesse
Age: 29
Children: 3 Boys! Lucas (8/17/09), Liam (07/21/13), Logan (09/03/15)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I LOVE tabatas on the treadmill! My favorite workout with a HIIT circuit with TRX and kettle-bells! Throw in an assisted pull-up in there, and I’m good to go!!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Since becoming a mom, I have graduated with my Master’s Degree in Health and Fitness Studies, and I am currently working on my second Master’s Degree in Health Policy! I am an advocate for staying healthy and active during pregnancy, so I continued to run and teach my group X classes during all of my pregnancies. My certifications also include: SCW Group Exercise, SCW Moms in Motion, NASM Senior, Fitness Specialist, NASM Youth Exercise Specialist, Agility, Balance, Core Fitness Training Specialist , Core Training Specialist, Level 2 Cycle Fusion
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Move! Don’t use pregnancy as an excuse because you’re not eating for two! Studies show that you only need an additional 300 calories a day in your second trimester, and 450-500 by your third trimester. As long as your doctor gives you the OK, continue your fitness journey (with modifications). Trust me, you and your baby will thank you for it! One story I would like to share: When I was expecting my second and third boys, I continued to teach my indoor cycling classes (with the approval from my doctor). I was not setting out to be an “inspiration” to anyone because I was just doing what was right for myself and my baby. So many people were impressed and applauded me. Other’s accused me of being “selfish” and “hurting my baby.” What I did, and WILL CONTINUE TO DO is educated those who thought I was wrong for exercising. We NEED to educated expected moms and their supporters that exercise during pregnancy is beneficial and shouldn’t be taboo!

First Name: Nancy
Age: 33
Children: (3) Kids 9 year old boy, (7) Year old girl and 8 month old girl.
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Ran 2 half marathons earlier this year.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Honestly it’s so cliché but, “Never say never.” I tried to do couch25k numerous times (By myself) I couldn’t get past week 3. After a week back east visiting my family in December 2014 I found my weight was the highest ever and I wasn’t happy at all. I found a post on my local FB page asking people to join a Couch2Halfmarathon program. All runs are planned we just had to show up. So I did it. The first runs were only 2 miles and I was struggling hard. Around a 16-17 min mile. But after a few weeks it got easier. And by March I was at a mid 12 Min Mile and running 8 miles. I ended up pregnant with #3 and was too sick to run. But when I was cleared in December post C-Section; I jumped right back into running and completed (2) half marathons in April and May. Going for #3 in October and a full in 2017! The best thing is my son runs with me too. And my daughter and I walk or play just dance for exercise. It’s very true when they say exercise makes you happy. The happier you feel about yourself the better your demeanor. I try to never take myself too seriously and just have fun when I run. And this attitude has come through in all aspects all my life since I began my running journey.

First Name: Stacey
Age: 29
Children: Kailyn – 12, Aidyn – 8, Liam – 2.5
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running and Strength Training
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I started running about a year and half ago. I used to run all the time about 6 years ago but nothing like I do now! I signed up for my first half December 2015 and ran it easy not knowing what to expect, I became addicted! I signed up for another half that was in March 2016 and quickly realized that I wanted to run a full marathon. The half in March also had the option for a full, so I changed my registration to the full course in February, leaving me about 3-4 weeks to train! I had two goals in mind, one was to finish, and the second was to qualify for Boston. At mile 22 I was pretty sure qualifying for Boston was gone, but at least I was still running, I hit the finish line at 3:33, my qualifying time to beat for Boston needed to be better than a 3:35! My husband and kids were there at the finish as well as my sister, I loved that my kids got to see me work for something that I wanted so bad and achieve it!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Stay Flexible with your workout time! Over the last year and a half I have had to adjust my schedule for working out multiple times to fit the needs of my family! Whether its late night workouts in the playroom, or early morning runs! Don’t give up just because you have to change your schedule a little! It can be done! I have lost 30lbs in the last year and a half, all from working out at home and fitting it in to our daily lives! You have to want it! As Moms, we need something that is for us, something that makes us happy and that we can focus on, I love my running time, even if I have to take the kids with me!

First Name: Stacey
Age: 31
Children: Dylan 8, Ethan 4, Jackson 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: My preferred form of exercise is running. But I love a good HIIT workout. I also really enjoy strength training. And I just joined a gym and I’m excited to try some group workouts and spin.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: In May 2015 I changed my lifestyle from sedentary to active and from eating poorly to clean eating. Since then I have lost about 100 pounds from my highest weight. My goal was to complete a half marathon in December 2015. I completed that half marathon, four more half marathons and 5 other races.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: It took me a while to realize that taking time for me wasn’t selfish. Moms deserve the same amount of time and energy that you put into your family. Since taking time for myself, I think I have become a happier and healthier wife and mom.

Age: 38
Children: Declan, 2 and Maverick coming September 6, 2016
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Bootcamp and Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom: Since giving birth to my first son I shed the 60lbs I gained during his pregnancy (and then some) and built my running up from 5k’s to running 5 half marathon’s in one year.
Advice for other moms: We as mom’s are the foundation for our family. If we aren’t taking care of ourselves (physically and mentally) then it’s impossible for the house to remain intact and the family to thrive! I’m a wife, boy mama and believer in people. Having gained and lost over 100 pounds TWICE I can’t tell you enough how important a healthy lifestyle means to me. That doesn’t mean skinny. That means you are doing your best to make sure you’re making positive choices for yourself and your body. No one is perfect 100% of the time, we’re all a work in progress, but waking up every day and making the choice to put yourself and your health first is the best decision you can make!

Age: 35
Children: Feliz and Lorenzo (8 and 5)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Endurance Sports including Running and Triathlon
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: When I started triathlons I thought you had to join Athena if you were over 165 lbs. I went into my first triathlon registered as Athena and took 1st. Then I decided for my next I would register as Age Group and again took 1st in my division. Then the rest of the season I would go back and forth and kept placing in either Athena or my age group. I placed in 4 out of 5 triathlons for 2015, taking 5th place by :29 seconds behind the 3rd place winner (who was my bff so that’s ok). I want to be the example that you don’t have to be a certain weight or body type to be a competing athlete.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Exercise, which I refer to as training, is your “me” time. We as moms put our kids first every hour of every day. Make time for yourself. It’s the best example you can set for your kids. You will build confidence in yourself and that will reflect on your kids confidence (especially the young girls). Show them strong is the new beautiful.

Children: Jordan (8), Olivia (4), and Jameson (13 months)
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running and just starting to dabble in yoga and weight training
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My proudest accomplishment is actually just stepping out the front door every time I go running or finishing the workout that I have planned for the day. It’s a challenge some (okay, most!) days with being a stay at home mom and being able to fit time in for myself, but it’s totally worth it! Happy Momma = happy household!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Make the time for you and just do whatever makes you happy! You aren’t neglecting your family, you are making everyone and everything better by making yourself better. And the days you feel like giving in? Don’t! You can’t be 100% for your family when you yourself are not at 100%. And have fun!!

First Name: Shannon
Age: 21
Children: Hannah- 3
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: OCR (Obstacle Course Racing), KickBoxing
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Nothing in this world feels better than when my daughter wants to be apart of my fitness journey. Since becoming a mom my lifestyle has made a 360 degree turn around. I could never get myself motivated to workout and when I did I wasn’t enjoying it. I knew I had to get my but in gear if I want to be around long enough to be the mom I want to be. I fell in love with kickboxing, and my love for OCR stemmed from there. I’ve completed a handful of races, and just seeing those medals hang in my room really makes me feel accomplished. I recently just ran my first race alone and this just helped prove to myself that I have made big changes in my life, and I CAN do anything I put my mind to😀
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Being a mom is one of the most rewarding experiences. You have so many roles to play a part in as a mom and it never gets easier; YOU just get BETTER! Never let anything or anyone stand in your way. You’re a MOM you can do ANYTHING😀

First Name: Brittany
Age: 29 (for a few more short months yikes!)
Children: Roman, 4 and Griffin, 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Does Shopping count as cardio ;-)? I kid! I love to ride my Peloton bike. It’s my therapy. I also use free weights. The best part? I do it all in the comfort of my own home! Hair is a mess? Makeup still on your face from the day before? It’s all okay!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Making fitness and eating right a priority, and teaching my kids that too. It doesn’t take a huge sacrifice to lead a healthier lifestyle. A whole bunch of little changes can make a big difference!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Make time for yourself. It’s okay to be a little selfish. It makes you a better Mom. I have been all over the map with my weight. My heaviest was 240. I lost it all, 85 pounds to be exact. I gained all by 10 pounds back during my pregnancies. I’m 40 pounds heavier than my “skinniest” weight. You know what? I’m okay with that. I’m working hard to get fit, get healthy and be an example for my kids. I want to teach them how to be active, what healthy foods are and most importantly, to be comfortable in their own skin! (no matter what their size) I have realized as a Mom that the changes might take a little longer and might not ever be as noticeable. My softer belly and “tiger stripes” are my trophies for having two beautiful rambunctious boys.

Age: 27
Children: Eleanor (2) and trying to conceive baby #2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: HIIT, tabata and hiking
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My biggest accomplishment is probably the fact that the way I look and feel makes me happy. I worked really hard after my daughter was born to lose the (50lbs eeek) weight I gained and while I had diastasis issues, I managed to close the gap ALMOST entirely!! Having a flat stomach before being pregnant made it hard for me to accept not having one after…shallow…I know. But looking good and feeling good contributes to my happiness as a person and who doesn’t love a happy mommy.:-) I was about to sign a fitness modeling contract until I found out I was pregnant…who know’s…maybe one day I could be a fitness mommy model but in the meantime I’m happy just being a fit mom.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Do what makes you happy!! A happy mommy makes for a happy baby:-) And if you workout before you are pregnant, definitely keep working out when you can while you’re pregnant. For some reason I stopped…and I think it had a lot to do with my excessive weight gain and diastasis. Stay active. It will go a long way. But don’t be too hard on yourself either…growing a human is hard work!😉

Age: 36
Children: 6 kids ranging in age from 15 – 1 years old.
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running and weight lifting
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Since the birth of my oldest I have gone from a size 12 to a 4-6, and made it back to that size after each baby. I am at my strongest now and love that my kids tell their friends that my mom runs or my mom lifts weights. They are proud of me and that makes me happy.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Don’t let a set back determine the rest of your story. I had to completely stop working out during most of my pregnancies just to stay pregnant. That resulted in a lot of weight gain. But once I gave birth I got started working out again – from square one. And it was so hard, but I saw progress and so I kept going. You don’t have to be perfect to make progress, just set goals that will work for you and your lifestyle. Involve your kids in fitness and let them help to motivate you.

First Name: Jenna
Age: 30
Children: I am currently 8 1/2 months pregnant, due Sept 2nd!
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: HIIT (high intensity interval Training) and Tabata. I love the heart pumping combination of cardio and weights to work the entire body in less time! Who wants to be in the gym for over an hour? My limit is 45 minutes, and I can accomplish a lot in that time with HIIT. It also allows me to work at my own intensity, and I love creating new workouts to keep my body challenged.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I am proud that I have maintained by fitness regimen throughout my pregnancy. I am a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, teaching everything from Tabata to Spinning, and I feel super strong in my body! Fitness is important to me, and I have had many moms thank me for being a positive role model for prenatal fitness.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: When we first find out that we’re pregnant, many women become afraid to continue to exercise. However, if approved by your doctor, maintaining your strength and stamina will be a huge help during delivery, and post recovery. It will also help you feel confident and strong in your new growing body. Thanks to muscle memory, you will bounce back quicker and be able to carry that heavy car seat with ease! Do not lose your identity because you are becoming a mom. You are you first and foremost, and a happy mom means a happy baby! First Name: Jennifer
Age: 36
Children: 4 year old superhero, Landon
Preferred form of Exercise: Swim, bike, run, hike
Fitness accomplishment you are most proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a Mom-to-be: I’m most proud that we spend most of our time outdoors, that at age 4, Landon has already completed one milers, 5ks, an OCR and has crossed many finish lines with me. Watching him swim 25 yards this summer, ride his bike up ramps and around pump park tracks is my biggest achievement too because I know that he is following my example. So, I will keep setting goals and incorporating him into my training because it makes me a better athlete and mom. Finishing a very vertical half marathon while pushing him in a stroller on a course nobody had every strolled before was a great moment for both of us!
Advice for other moms: Set goals and don’t make excuses. If your daily life is getting in the way, make the choice to not let it and push harder.

Health and Fitness accomplishment you are proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: After having my 4th child and having 4 c-sections I had gained over 65 pounds and wasn’t sure if I could get it off. I started being active right away. 4 weeks after having my baby boy I walked a 5k & as soon as I got released at 6 weeks to workout I started running and added weight training into my routine. I started to see my body really transform and lose the weight I gained and felt healthy, strong and happy. I decided to follow my dreams and got certified to teach INSANITY LIVE, PIYO, TURBO KICK and BootCamps. I really wanted to help other women and moms get healthy & fit and for them to know they could change there lives. I started classes and training moms in my neighborhood and out of my house. I love sharing my passion and helping other women and moms make time for themselves, feel good again and take charge of their health! I also followed my dream of running a marathon. I started training and running and never looked back. I have run 6 half marathons and 4 Full marathons! I’ll be 39 this month and I’m in the best shape of my life! Health and fitness accomplishments you are proud of since becoming a mom: I have always been so envious of runners. I never thought I could do it. A little over a year ago, I decided to go to a local run group. I decided to train with their group for a local 5K. Little by little, I began to see results!!! I could run farther than I ever could without stopping to walk! It became an addiction. To date, I have run 4 half marathons, 15K, 10K and 5K’s. I am, currently, training for 3 marathons this fall!!
Advice for other moms: Start working on your dreams and don’t ever stop!! I feel like I have set such a great example for my kids! They have seen me go after my goals and achieve every single one. First Name: Sandra
Age: 30
Children: Rome-10 years old, Ashlyn- 9 weeks old
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Strength training and HIIT workouts
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I am proud of myself for exercising and eating healthy foods throughout my pregnancy. It can be difficult to stick with a fitness routine while being pregnant and feeling lethargic as pregnancy progresses. I made it my mission to get some form of exercise most days out of the week and to not indulge in decadent foods on a daily basis. I wanted to remain healthy for my baby, family and I. While being pregnant with my son, I gained 80 pounds and had to be referred to a nutritionist by my doctor due to the excessive weight gain. This past pregnancy, I had only gained 15 pounds but my daughter ended up being born owning half of the amount of weight that I had gained. Postpartum, for both pregnancies, I lost the baby weight fairly quickly by eating a diet of mostly whole foods and moving my body on a daily basis. My goal is to inform my children and other moms and moms to be that we should do our best to keep our bodies and mind healthy and never resort to extreme measures in order to make that happen.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice for moms and moms-to-be is to be the best version of yourself. It is important not to look at celebrities and/or fitness models as your idea of the perfect body. More times than not, those women are either airbrushed or go through extreme measures in order to gain and maintain those bodies. A healthy mind and body comes from knowing our bodies are all different from one another and we should be grateful for the body that we were given. If there is something that we do not like about our body, than we are able to fix it, but it should be done in a healthy manner and with a nourished mindset.

First Name: Tera
Age: 30
Children: I have 4 kids. Maia age 10, Craig age 7, Cruz age 3, and Molly age 2.
Your preferred form of exercise: Running and LOTS of yoga
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My biggest fitness accomplishment was running my first half marathon. It was something that I never imagined I was capable of doing. It took a lot of training, crying, and sweating, but crossing that finish line is a moment I will never forget!
What advice do you have for other moms or moms to be: Make sure to take time out for yourself. You have to fill up your own cup before you can fill up others! What I mean by that is to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Get in those miles or a great yoga session or whatever it is that makes you feel better. I feel like a mom who can take the time to feel better about herself is a mom that is ready to give 100% of her attention to the next part of her day. When you are feeling down on yourself your mind will stay there. Don’t feel guilty about taking that time for yourself. You deserve it!

First Name: Christy
Age: 32
Children: Oliver -2 months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: running, biking, swimming, and weights!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I was pretty happy that I was able to run and weight lift my whole pregnancy. Since having my baby, I haven’t been able to run yet, but I’m working on strengthening my pelvic floor muscles and going on lots of walks. We went o Disneyland recently and walked about 10-11 miles a day for 4 days in a row, so I’m pretty proud of that! I know that I will be working out like I used to soon, but I’m focusing on healing properly before I jump into anything too fast.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Keep working out your whole pregnancy if you can–it was a huge help for me during my pregnancy. Also, don’t stress out of you can’t workout right away after giving birth–you will have plenty of time to do it later-enjoy this special time with your baby. Try little things each day.

Children: 2 month old baby girl
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running and Hiking
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Completing a Full Marathon in under 5 hrs while 30 weeks pregnant
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Don’t give up. I had a lot of people tell me I needed to stop running because it would cause me to miscarry. I am so glad I did not listen to these people. None of these negative people were athletes or doctors. When I asked my doctor if I should stop being active and fit during my pregnancy she said absolutely not. I believe that because I was so active my pregnancy, labor and delivery was a wonderful experience. In the last few weeks of pregnancy I was told not to run, but my doctor suggested I should take yoga classes, go for long walks and continue to stretch. Pregnancy can really mess with your mind. Many women feel uncomfortable because they have never been that big in their lives. At first I struggled with this, but then after following Fit Mom Strong Mom on social media I saw other athletic women who inspired me to do what I could without over doing it, as well as to love myself the way I was. Pregnancy was a beautiful experience for me.

Age: 29 (almost 30 eeek)
Children: Lauren 11yo, Max 6yo, Chloe 4yo
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: HIIT, Weights, Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Went back to school for a second degree in nursing while being a mom to 3 kids. I am healthier and stronger than before having my children. Ran my first half marathon in 1h35 min (7.19 min mile). Spartan mom, gym enthusiast and I became a certified personal trainer and spin instructor.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Being active and working out is my therapy. It is not only good for the body but it is also great for the mind. Involve your kids in your workouts, its incredible how much they look up to us and copy us. We are their biggest motivation and introducing fitness early is one of the greatest gifts i can give them. Thankfully, my pregnancies were healthy and i enjoyed being pregnant. My only concern was the big weight gain from my first pregnancy (50lbs). I was not being careful with what i was eating and using my pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever i wanted and craved. I started going to the gym when my baby was 6 months old to try to lose my baby weight. Everyday became easier and easier. going to the gym became no longer “i have to go to lose weight” but instead I wanted to go because it made me feel good, I wanted to get stronger. Here I am today, gym is no longer a punishment, it’s a habit. It is one hour I give to myself to get stronger, feel energized. It is my social outlet where all us moms get together to become stronger, healthier and have fun!

I have become quite passionate about learning the olympic lifts and can clean and jerk more than my body weight! I also have my Crossfit Level 1 and NASM CPT

Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Do not feel guilty if you make time for yourself. Health and wellness are so important. Being fit contributes to health and wellness, as well as self-confidence. First Name: Amy
Age: 42
Children: Kailey 18, Dillon 15, Jenna 12
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: This is a tough one! I love running, lifting, and yoga! Last year I began my journey into fitness when my cousin asked me to run a Spartan race with her. I was in NO condition to do any such thing when she asked me. I started out by doing workout DVDs at home. When they were no longer enough, I started running, and joined a gym.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Last year I trained for and completed a Spartan Trifecta. This means completing all 3 levels of Spartan races (Sprint, Super, and Beast), earning myself my trifecta. This year my husband decided to join me!! He too has just begun his journey into fitness. He’s completed 2 OCR so far this year. I can’t wait to earn our 2017 trifecta together in October!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Make time for YOU!! I know that it’s cliche. But I wish that I had done this sooner. I lost myself in motherhood. I have 100% of me to my children. That left nothing for me. Had I poured into myself even a tiny bit, I know I could have been a better mother.

First Name: Kelli
Age: 31
Children: Liam, 3 years old. Currently 24 weeks pregnant with baby #2
Preferred Form of Exercise: I love taking new classes, and leading several bootcamps in my local area but I always come back to running. I have run 16 half marathons (2 while pregnant!) and 2 full marathons along with 5ks, 10ks, and 15ks. I now love incorporating running into my strength program while pregnant. I’ve been doing more Crossfit style workouts at home and at my gym that incorporate little sprints throughout.
Health & Fitness Accomplishment you are proud of since becoming a mom: I am proud that I still make exercise and training for long races a priority. Knowing that I’m doing something for myself and that my son can watch me work hard while achieving a goal is immeasurable. I’m also proud of my flexibility as it’s not easy to workout with a baby or toddler around, but Liam goes with the flow and enjoys getting pushed in the stroller while I run or crawling under me during push-ups or planks.
Advice for other moms: Give yourself time and grace after having a baby to get back into your regular routine of exercise. Every day at first is crazy and you just have to roll with it. Carve out 10-15 minutes when you can and feel able. That will help your motivation. But don’t get frustrated if you don’t or can’t workout after a new one comes along. You will get back to a routine and some normalcy soon. Enjoy those baby snuggles a little bit longer!

Age: 33
Children: J is 12 and C is 7
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Hiking, Running, and Yoga
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: After having J, my daughter, I had bad PPD and medication just made things worst. I began doing Yoga and it helped, that snowballed into all sorts of different activities. When I was pregnant for C, my son, I wasn’t able to workout as much and gained more than just baby weight. After he was born I just didn’t feel right so I went back to working out. I lost 20lbs, got my energy back, and found myself in a better state of mind.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Take time for yourself, even if it’s just five minutes to breathe. You’ll be better for it. Also be true to you, don’t let others dictate how you act, raise your family, or treat yourself.

Age: 36
Children: Grayson, 3 years; Harper, 22 months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Since having my second child, I rekindled my love of running. Since my youngest was born, I’ve run in 10 races of varying distances (from 5k to half marathons) and I’ve hit a new personal record (PR) in all but 2 of them! I’m running paces now that are more than 2 minutes per mile faster than what I was running BEFORE having kids. I once swore I would never run another half marathon after my first in 2009 – now I’m gearing up for my first FULL MARATHON this fall!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Be kind to and make time for yourself! As a working mom with 2 little kids, I know how busy life can get and how little time we have. I felt like I was in survival mode for a long time but once I started carving out time for myself (even if it means getting up at 445am to get a workout done before I head to work), my entire life changed. By taking care of myself first thing in the morning, it freed me up to be a better wife, mom, and employee. The wheels still fall off our bus on the regular, but I’m much kinder to myself about it these days knowing that there’s always a better day right around the corner.

Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Yoga, running, circuit training and weightlifting.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Within 6 months of having my son, I had PR’s in both 5k and 10k’s! I even ran a 10 mile race and did better than I expected. I had never been a serious runner, but found that it was a great way to get back in shape postpartum. I also started going to yoga regularly and started being able to do inversions that I had always wanted to try.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Take it one day at a time! Some days are tougher than others and you need to allow yourself a little wiggle room. Be kind to yourself. Your body has went through miraculous changes and grew & birthed a baby which is an amazing thing! Occupation: High School Science Teacher
Children: Charlie (girl) 4 years old
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: CrossFit
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I had never lifted in my life and was unable to even do a push-up on my knees postpartum- 8 weeks after Charlie was born my mom had me start Crossfit… 3 years later and this year I am on my gym’s Regional Team for the Reebok CrossFit games. I cannot believe I am stringing muscle ups and deadlifting 310+ lbs among other things… I walked in and saw people doing that and thought no way could I ever do that. After a lot of hard work I am now one of those people inspiring others and 10 years older than them!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Take some time out for you. It will make you a better and more confident woman to spend time on yourself, just an hour 3-4 days a week. Your kids will see your physical and mental strength and it will help you emotionally, mentally and physically more than you know. I don’t believe in “can’t”… you just haven’t done it yet:) You have enough time if it is a priority, make yourself a priority. First Name: Lauren
Age: 33
Children: Lucas Alexander, 14 weeks
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running, yoga,
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: One thing that I am very proud of and grateful for during my pregnancy was that I was able to teach yoga comfortably all the way up until I was 36 weeks. Teaching is something I am very passionate about and yoga has remained an activity that has helped my body and mind in my relationships, work, family and in keeping me injury free while running. Since having Lucas, I was able to start back with yoga at about 2 weeks PP and running at 6 weeks. I am training for the San Francisco half at the end of July.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice for mom’s to be or new mom’s is to take 1-2 hours to yourself every day. Being pregnant and then becoming a mom is very hard work and at times challenging in every way possible. It is healthy for mom’s to nourish themselves and to participate in activities they are passionate about and that bring them joy. I use the time to go for a run or do yoga or cooking healthy and delicious food. Sometimes I need something more relaxing and decide to read instead.

Children: Vincent 7 and Edith 3
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Weight lifting/Kettlebells and Yoga but I love to cycle, swim and enjoy the occasional run too!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I recently started using the leg press in the gym and am able to press double my body weight! It makes me feel like a total badass!😉 My son is disabled and I am his full time carer. After having my daughter I fell into a deep depression and would suffer rage blackouts. I was in a very dark place. One day I just felt this urge to run. So I did, I put my trainers on and I went for a run. It was a sense of freedom I’d never felt before. I was hooked to this adrenalin rush that exercise gave me. I joined a gym and fell in love with kettlebells. My depression lifted and my children got their mummy back.
The last year has been a tumultuous one in our lives with a marital split and my dear father being diagnosed with lung cancer. Going to the gym and practising yoga has saved my sanity for sure – My daughter even joins in sometimes!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice for other mums would be that sometimes it’s ok to put yourself first. ‘You cannot serve from an empty vessel’:)

Just 5 months later, I ran my first half marathon, and went on to run 6 more, shaving a full 10+ minutes off my time!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Make time for yourself! Squeeze in exercise whenever and wherever you can. Buy a few fitness DVDs and some hand weights. When you make time for yourself, you feel better. And when you feel better, you are a better mommy!

First Name: Kerry
Age: 34
Children: Aubrey, age 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: CrossFit and Yoga
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom: After I was done breast feeding, I kept eating the same amount of higher calories and gained A LOT of weight. I was getting out of breath going up stairs and knew I needed to change. It started with portion control and yoga (I just felt so tight and needed to get my muscles moving). For Christmas I got a Fitbit and that’s where the activity began! I began hitting my step goals and going out of my way to walk and move more. Shortly after, I began clean eating (and I am already gluten free due to Celiac). I started a new job and one of my patients owns a CrossFit gym. She invited me to try it out and I fell IN LOVE!!! Growing up an athlete, I need more than just dancing in place. I love that no matter the workout or your skill level, it can be modified for anyone. Everyone encourages each other and it feels like a team sport – while trying to do your personal best. Since Christmas, I have lost 33.7lbs and have dropped 3 clothing sizes. I also now have definition in my arms and even more in my legs. I feel great!
Advice for other moms: Take some time for you. Make it happen. Eating clean is the easiest route. When your kid goes to bed, go to Comcast OnDemand and do a few of their FREE yoga videos to start!

I took up running, as a way to lose the access baby weight. I have now completed 6 half marathons, and run almost daily, Plus cross train at least 5 days a week. My daughter joins me on my runs, (I push her in the stroller) and loves to show me how she can run just like mommy!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Staying active is a great way to keep your kids active! Being a mom is hard work, and running/working out is my time to take care of me. I feel better about myself, and my overall confidence is higher. Staying fit is just as important.

First Name: Stephanie
Age: 37
Children: Mason, 10
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Weight lifting, yoga, barre, running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I completed the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World in 2015- half marathon one day and full marathon the best. So far, my biggest fitness accomplishment!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Forget about the four-week exercise challenges and the month-long food challenges. There are no long lasting quick fixes. Health and fitness is a lifelong journey. We’re always on the road to improving and growing; always wondering what new adventures are around the corner. Enjoy the process, even if it’s slow. You’ll meet a lot of people along the way. Pay no mind to those sitting on the sideline chattering. Instead align yourself with those out on the trail grinding and trying hard. Those are your people.

First Name: Heidi
Age: 38
Children: Brandon, 9 and Avery 7
My Preferred Form of Exercise: I really enjoy running, doing home workout programs like The Master’s Hammer and Chisel, PiYo and 22 Minute Hard Corps. I also love riding bikes and going hiking with my kids and husband. I also play a lot of basketball with my kids in our driveway!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment I am proud of since becoming a mom: I ran my first marathon in 2008 with Team in Training. Just 11 months after having my son. I did it in honor of my dad who passed away from Leukemia in 2006. I never was a runner before, sure I was athletic and played volleyball, basketball and softball, but running was just not my thing. Or so I thought. What I learned after completing that marathon is that my body is capable of so much more than I give it credit it for. I remember thinking one evening on the treadmill during my training that wow I remember when running 2 miles was a STRUGGLE and now I can run 5 miles! And then to do 26.2 miles (in the 90 degree Idaho heat mind you) was a major accomplishment. Since then I had my daughter and I’ve done a half marathon, 3 Tough Mudders and plan to do 2 more half marathons and a sprint triathlon this racing season and seasons to come. I have found a new appreciation for running and working out on a consistent basis since having children and I’ve also found that they like to get involved with my workouts and running!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: I wasn’t very active during my pregnancies and I wish I would have been. So for mothers to be, just keep being active as much as you can! For moms, being active will help set the tone for your children to be active, they watch and learn from our every move. So if they are babies, put them in the stroller and go for a run or walk. Once they are older like my kids, get them involved with your activities, they love that quality time together and will give them good habits as they grow into adults. We are constantly fighting against an inactive, lethargic, poor eating habits society and I believe it is our jobs as moms to teach our kids to choose good foods and to stay active. We are not going to be perfect and that’s ok, just try your best to get everyone moving and making good food choices most of the time! Give yourself credit for the little victories throughout the day. No matter where you are just start and keep going.

First Name: Jessi
Age: 32
Children: Matix, 9 – 2 Step kids – Damon, 21 & Tori, 18
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I enjoy staying active in many different ways! I enjoy hiking with my fiancé, Jade, my children and my dog, surfing, longboarding snowboarding, running but my first love for physical activity is YOGA!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Becoming a yoga instructor. I enjoy the lifestyle of being a yoga practitioner: no harming to yourself others and the environment! I am also currently a high school math teacher at Manchester Twp high school currently teaching AP calculus Algebra 1 and implementing an alternative school program for at risk students. I have been a high school teacher for 8 years and a yoga instructor for 6. Running was my first love but after a foot surgery I found myself lost and confused! I needed to be challenged not only physically but mentally. I needed the focus of running for my mind and the challenge for my body. Reluctantly i walked into my first yoga class and was hooked! It forced me to be present, focused, and was one of the most physical practices I have ever endured! In just one years time I received my yoga certification from the Center of Health and Healing in Toms River NJ! I’ve maintained my certification through workshops with Raghunath Cappo Gerald Saluti and David Regelin (to name a few) I have been a dedicated teacher and practitioner ever since. Leading me to my second training with Sam Vetrano and Irene Papas through Bodhi movement in Jackson NJ. I have over 400 hours of training under my belt and over 1000 hours of teaching experience.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Keep it up and stay strong! I have noticed that the older my son gets the more he appreciates a mom that is fit and active. He looks to me as an example when choosing foods to eat and he actually became a vegetarian on his own accord! Keeping a nice balance in your life is very important! But remaining childlike and fun is the most important…it makes for a happy mom, happy kids, and a happy life!

Age: 28
Children: Easton-8, Bradley-4, Laura-7 months
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: After my second child I started running to avoid depression. I ran countless 5Ks and even placed in a few local ones. I ran a half marathon and was in the best shape of my life. Then, I found out I was expecting baby number 3. We were very excited but one problem, I gain A LOT of weight when pregnant and along with that I broke my foot. I am now preparing for my first of 5 half marathons this year. Running has made me proud of my self and I was having so much fun competing with my self I didn’t realize I lost all that weight and got into shape. My husband and I have 80 acres. We raise dogs, sheep, chickens, horses, and other livestock depending on the time of year. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible by processing our own meat and growing our own vegetables. My family loves being outside. We enjoy camping, kayaking, hunting, and hiking.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: I could give other moms advice it would be don’t give up. Life will get in the way of fitness goals and you will have horrible days or weeks or months but every time you step out of bed you get to start fresh.

Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Being a mom is hard enough don’t make it harder by being mean to yourself. All of the changes I have made over 9 months were out of self-love. In believing I deserve more, and it has made my lifestyle much easier to stick with. When I fall off the wagon I lovingly tell myself it’s ok and start over the next day without looking back.

Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running!!!!!!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I have finally got to a level of fitness where I consistently stand on the awards podium!!!!! It is generally for my age group, but believe me, it is a TOUGH age group and I’m proud of all the hard work I have put in to get there.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Seriously do NOT sweat the small stuff. Things that seem uber important and earth shattering now, will be memories you laugh about later. Your kids will fall down, get hurt, eat the wrong things, get in trouble at school, get a bad grade, sass a teacher, but this is what makes them learn patience, understanding and discipline. Do your best and enjoy the ride! They grow so fast and will be out on their own in no time. Be the best role model you can be. Answer all their questions honestly and be there for them each day. First Name: Heather
Age: 37
Children: Ava 5, Nolan 2
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running is definitely number 1, but I love strength training too!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Even before being a mom I always loved working out. When I found out I was pregnant, the first thing I registered for was a running stroller! And with my son a double jogger. I ran my entire pregnancies, but developed a blood clot after my son was born and could not even walk without pain for over a month, let alone run. As soon as I could though, I never looked back. I signed up for a half marathon 6 months later, and since then have run 7. I hope to at least double that number by 2017.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Being a mom doesn’t mean you no longer matter. Making time for yourself is okay and important. Some days I might only get 25 minutes at the gym, but there are ways to make that time effective and really makes a difference for me in the balance of my life. I’ve also found having a small collection of weights and other equipment at home can be helpful, and my kids love joining me for some workouts too! A double jogger is my an absolute must for me. I love bringing the kids to new parks and places we run and then I get the time with them too!

During my first pregnancy, I let my eating get out of control and barely exercised thinking, “oh it will be so easy to get back into shape after I have my baby” HA! Little did I know how long it would take to lose the 50+ pounds I gained. This time around I have continued to run and lift weight and eat clean. I’ve noticed such a huge difference in not just my weight gain, but how I feel during this pregnancy. I have more energy and feel strong. Health & Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom: I never really worked out before becoming a mom and now I have 4 half marathons, several 5ks and one 18 mile race under my belt. I am also proud to be a PLYOGA instructor. I started the Couch to 5k program 4 1/2 years ago which kick started my passion for working out. I started to do 5k’s, then half marathons. Over the next couple of years, I became passionate with different exercises and learning about proper nutrition and began to network with lots of fitness professionals. Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Be the role model you want to be for your kids. Workout with them. Show them what it means to be living a healthy lifestyle. Your habits become their habits so choose carefully.

First Name: Nancy
Age: 37
Children: Em age 7 and Aubs age 3
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: While I love sweating any way that I can, I truly love to run. Since becoming a mom, I have really embraced distance running while using weight training to stay injury free!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: To help battle postpartum depression I began running long miles while pushing my oldest in the jogger. Since having her 7 years ago, I am proud to say that I have clocked over 1200 miles every year and have run 36 half marathons! I even ran a half marathon to celebrate being half-way through my second pregnancy!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: I would say the two things that has helped me the most since I have become a mom was first to remember that everyone’s journey is different. Comparing your journey to someone else’s will only steal the power of your own. Also there is always time to get moving no matter how busy you are! A workout doesn’t always have to be a full hour or two uninterrupted. You can fit in high intensity workouts into just about every schedule especially if you involve the kids! Before you know it you’ll be sweating and smiling!

Preferred Form of Exercise: Running and hiking.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment I am proud of: I ran my first Marathon on May 17, 2015, one year and three days after the birth of my first child. In this pregnancy I have run a 5k, 10k (18 weeks) and a half marathon (21 weeks) in official races as well as a number of double digit runs just for me. I am scheduled to run another half when I am 31 weeks pregnant.
Advice for other moms: I believe that life begins outside your comfort zone. Sweating helps me balance mamahood, pregnancy and full time social working…make time for exercise!

Name: Kaitlyn
Age: 25
Children: Tucker, 2.5 and soon to be Bo due April 2016
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I have fallen in love with exercising at home. I always thought I had to go to the gym for at least an hour to get a good workout, but that NEVER happened after I became a mommy. Now, I exercise completely from my living room! Cardio, Pilates, and weights are my jam.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are proud of since become a mom: The thing I’m most proud of health wise is losing 40+ lbs after baby #1, getting my confidence back, and finally feeling like myself again.
Advice for other moms: My advice for other moms is it’s okay to make time for your health and happiness. If that means carving out 30 minutes of time for a workout in your day, do it! If that means going out for a jog with the stroller, do it! If that means getting a babysitter once a month to have a mama’s day out, do it! Remember, you can pour from an empty cup. Don’t get so caught up in serving/helping others that you forget about yourself. If mama ain’t happy, nobody’s happy.

First Name: Amanda
Age: 29
Children: Two boys, Maiz(6) and Eliott(1 month)
Your preferred form of exercise: I love yoga, dance fitness, spinning, weight lifting, and crossfit!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are proud of since becoming a mom: My biggest health and fitness accomplishment since becoming a mother has to be losing 100 pounds and completing my first triathlon! I also coached youth soccer while pregnant with my second son!
Advice for other moms: My biggest piece of advice for moms would have to be to take time to get and STAY healthy. Your kids need and want you around for a long time and building a healthy lifestyle is the only way to make the most of your time with them. I also would add…don’t make the kids your excuse, there are plenty of ways to be active with your kids in tow! Strollers and babywearing for your little bitty ones and riding bikes, hiking, and playing sports(even if you’re not so great) like soccer are great ways to get in a workout and spend time with the family!

First Name: Dana
Age: 28
Kids: Juliana age 3
Your Preferred form of exercise: Insanity and weight lifting
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom: Gaining more certifications and continuing to teach exercise classes as well as being in better shape than before I was pregnant
Advice to other moms: Write things down and get the kids involved! It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to make the time to exercise with the little ones around but the best thing I found was to include my little girl into the workout. I put some loud music on and she dances around and I will even do planks with her on my back and hold her while I do some squats. Its fun for them and hard for you! Keep a journal and write all your goals in there. Write down your workouts or meals, etc. When you see it in front of you, you are more willing to keep up with it!

Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Variety! PLYOGA, Spinning, Bootcamp, Kickboxing, Strength

Advice for other moms: Take time for yourself. You are worth it! You can make the time to create a fitness routine for yourself whether it’s at home or in a gym. Try to make one simple change at a time to increase your health over a longer period of time. First Name: Jen
Age: 43
Children: 4 children, ages are 15,14,13 and 4
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: I’m a workout fiend and I love to run and HIIT train. I go to the gym 6-7 mornings per week. (Un)fortunately, I’m an all or nothing kinda gal so working out has become a way of life! I workout on my own at the gym, so it’s up to me to figure out what to do each day. I always run, at least 2.5 miles and sometimes I go up to 5ish miles. 3 times a week I do interval training and occasionally I’ll do ab work.
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Sticking to my workouts faithfully and losing 40 pounds since the birth of my 4th child in 2011. Losing the weight has changed my life in so many aspects, everyone is in a win situation in my house!
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be:  My tip or piece of advice would be to learn to put yourself first. Having 4 kids, I had to learn how to do that. It’s okay. Take care of yourself because in the long run, they will benefit too.

First Name: Andrea
Age: 26
Children: Samuel 10 months old
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Weight lifting/Body weight exercises and Kickboxing
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: My biggest accomplishment was when I attended Turbokick and Zumba classes while I was 7 months plus pregnant and was keeping up with the instructor and then later having women say that “if she can do it then I can do it”. Knowing that I motivated women made me proud that I continued to workout while I was pregnant. Since becoming a mom the best feeling was when my own mom told me (who is a nurse) that my son is picking up his mobility and body movement so quickly because he watches me workout every day. He sees me move and learn how to mimic it himself so he can do it too. Nothing cuter than having a baby crawl up next to you while you’re doing downward dog and he copies you.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My advice to moms-to-be is don’t stress out. Everything won’t go as you planned it every time and all the advice in the world won’t always fix what’s wrong. Just do what you feel is right and what you feel works for you and your baby. Let your partner know if you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed so you can get an hour to yourself. An hour to read a book or even to do your workout. Even mommy needs a break.

First Name: Tracy
Age: 44
Children: 17 year old
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Crossfit
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Proud moment is that after having my son I didn’t exercise, I was a mom and didn’t have time for exercise until about 5 years ago when my sister asked me to try the gym with a one week free pass…so I did and I actually liked it. I got a trainer and worked with her once a week for almost 3 years. The first 9 months I lost 56 lbs and felt great! I ran my first 5k ever, and then I tried Crossfit. The first time I tried it [Crossfit] I loved it and knew I wanted to continue. After working on lifts and getting stronger I entered my first Crossfit competition (an all girls competition) and I won! I was so proud of myself! My family came to watch and it was probably one of my proudest moments next to being a mom to my son.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: We all want to be there for our children and we always put ourselves last, but in order to always be there for your children you need to lead a healthy life even if that means going to the gym for an hour 3x a week and doing something for you. As they get older they see what you are doing and will follow those same footsteps.

Age: 43
Children: Ashley 16, Kelsey 14
Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Crossfit & T25
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: 1. losing 30 lbs in my 40’s through exercise and clean eating. 2. Helping others reach their health goals as an Omnitrition coach and distributor. Omnitrition is a nutrition and wellness company that prides itself on amazing all natural products to assist with health goals.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Take some time to take care of yourself no matter what. When you become a mom your whole life can easily tend to revolve around your children. You will be so much more available to them if you keep yourself healthy and happy too! Don’t feel guilty about “me time” whether that be an hour at the gym, a massage, a visit to the nail salon, or even some alone time with a cup of coffee and a good book. When you have that little bit of time for yourself, you are re-energized and better able to take on your role as a mom.
