Your Preferred Form of Exercise: Running mixed with anything new. My kids think it’s a 16-yr long mid-life crisis, but I crave the novelty & challenge – I’ve done CrossFit, surf lessons, SUP, kickboxing, played & reffed roller derby & more. I’m currently signed up for belly & tap dance this fall! So excited!
Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: I’ve worked hard to show my children first hand that you can redefine who you are throughout your lifetime- you can change your thinking, change those labels and change your life! I wasn’t an “athlete” in high school or college. I was generally uncoordinated and late to the scene, only picking up running & an interest in fitness after the birth of my second son. Even then, I didn’t consider myself worthy of the label “athlete”. I’ve grown into it with time, most importantly in my own thinking. Changing how you view or label yourself is a game changer, it can be the mental shift that takes you to the next level and not just in fitness, but in all facets of life.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: MOM GUILT. Can we just say we’ve had enough! There are emotions that are productive – this isn’t one of them. Whether we’re heaping it onto ourselves or onto others, it’s not lifting anyone up. Lend a hand instead of judgement. Lend an ear instead of advice. Compare less, stress less and cut yourself some slack. Motherhood can be a tough job with an ever changing job description, and there isn’t any one right way to do it.
