In general my entire perspective of training or working out changed drastically after I had my daughter. Prior to having my daughter I would only slightly train in the gym with weights –  I never picked up more than maybe an 8 pound dumbbell, I did a lot of Zumba and a lot of cardio but nothing like how I train right now. About a year after having my daughter I started to get serious about my fitness and I decided to hire a trainer to work with my husband and I. I have since been training with my trainer one time a week for the last three years. He really taught me how to change my body, fuel my metabolism, get stronger, and really get smarter in my training. His whole program is more based around training the entire mind and body as a whole and providing a whole body workout or experience in a much shorter amount of time then a traditional weight room routine usually takes.  With all that said I would say my biggest accomplishment is two fold. I’m much stronger in mind and body then I was ever before my pregnancies. And secondly it is the first time in my life that I have visible abdominal muscles that I am extremely proud of! Something I thought I would never have especially after having two children.
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: My biggest word of advice for any mom or mom-to-be is first, don’t be afraid to pick up weights. I weight trained through the entirety of my pregnancies, the first time with my daughter doing a lot more cardio involved moves but the second time with my son I heavy weight trained until the bitter end (until two days before I gave birth) and it was the best thing I could’ve ever done. I was stronger mentally and physically when I was giving birth and recovered much more quickly! Always heed the guidance of your doctor of course, but do the research or hire a trainer who is well versed in mobility and understanding the pregnant body!  And second, be active with your kids! Nothing beats a day of running, playing, swinging, and having fun! I’ve brought my kids and pushed them through 5ks, the color run, hikes, bike rides you name it! Having them be a part of your active lifestyle is the best gift you can give them!
