First Name: Laura
Children: Nicolas 16 and Cristian 12
Preferred form of exercise: weight training, HIIT training, TRX, and boxing. I like quick and efficient workouts best. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend hours in the gym.
Health & Fitness Accomplishments since becoming a mom: Its been a while, but I remember the challenges of pregnancy and becoming a new mom. I gained 65 lbs with my first and 55lbs with my second! Just working on losing that weight is an accomplishment in itself. I was always active growing up involved in sports, and before having children I worked as a fitness instructor through college, and then became a HS health and physical education teacher. Even though it was long ago, post pregnancy was a tough time both physically and mentally. It took a lot to get back into fitness because my body had changed and I had a lot less time! I thought I would go back to teaching, but I became a personal trainer. I feel like I am in better shape now than when I was younger and I try to inspire others to do the same no matter how old they are. I have run 5K’s with clients and even placed in my age group in several of them, completed a Fitahtlon, and I plan to get back into things I really loved like skating and biking.
Advice for new moms to be: Exercise and good nutrition are priceless before, during and after pregnancy. The more active you are the easier your pregnancy and delivery will be. Don’t be hard on yourself because you will probably not be prepared for your state of mental health after the baby comes. It’s physically and emotionally draining so if you fall out of your healthy routine, forgive yourself and move forward!! Keep your children active by modeling your enjoyment of exercise and movement rather than making like it’s a punishment. Let them find their own interests even if they’re different from yours;)
