Health and Fitness Accomplishment you are Proud of since becoming a mom or when you were a mom-to-be: Since becoming a mom, I have graduated with my Master’s Degree in Health and Fitness Studies, and I am currently working on my second Master’s Degree in Health Policy! I am an advocate for staying healthy and active during pregnancy, so I continued to run and teach my group X classes during all of my pregnancies. My certifications also include: SCW Group Exercise, SCW Moms in Motion, NASM Senior, Fitness Specialist, NASM Youth Exercise Specialist, Agility, Balance, Core Fitness Training Specialist , Core Training Specialist, Level 2 Cycle Fusion
Advice for other moms or moms-to-be: Move! Don’t use pregnancy as an excuse because you’re not eating for two! Studies show that you only need an additional 300 calories a day in your second trimester, and 450-500 by your third trimester. As long as your doctor gives you the OK, continue your fitness journey (with modifications). Trust me, you and your baby will thank you for it! One story I would like to share: When I was expecting my second and third boys, I continued to teach my indoor cycling classes (with the approval from my doctor). I was not setting out to be an “inspiration” to anyone because I was just doing what was right for myself and my baby. So many people were impressed and applauded me. Other’s accused me of being “selfish” and “hurting my baby.” What I did, and WILL CONTINUE TO DO is educated those who thought I was wrong for exercising. We NEED to educated expected moms and their supporters that exercise during pregnancy is beneficial and shouldn’t be taboo!
